Our Story

In the Plant Xchange story, kindled by a shared love for gardening and community at a G.L.I.T.S event, a community-centric tale unfolds.

Amidst the December 2020 lockdown, Taylor and Russell orchestrated a unique event at Soft Surplus in Ridgewood. Prioritizing community safety, personalized appointments were arranged for individuals to collect a free plant.

Joined by friends Simone and Makayla, Plant Xchange emerged as a community-driven initiative with a mission to enhance collective mental health and foster a connection to nature in urban landscapes. It embodies the strength of communities uniting for a common cause.

What We Do

We propagate free plants and distribute them among our members and the wider community. We also provide educational literature to help individuals learn about plant care, gardening techniques, and sustainability practices. We intentionally target our outreach towards marginalized communities to create gardening spaces that are accessible and safe for all.
